Long Term Versus Short Term investments!

Today's generation like me want their investment to grow in multiple folds in just days not in years, and they are right to some extent because that's the way Dalal or Wall street is reacting these days. But I am trying to keep a balance between long term and short term investments. My short term investments are generally triggered by stock price history and company's exposure to the latest news on economic situations where as my long term investments are the business which I understand, companies with strong market capital and the necessacity of the business in the economy. My decision of having a balanced portfolio (I call it as my StockSalad, the tasty one) keeps me busy in day to day involvement in the stock market and keeps me away from regrets of not being in the market from long term perspective.
